Marijuana can destroy the lives of teens. Do you agree that marijuana is bad for teens? Well our opinion is marijuana is bad and very bad for teens! It can cause high school drop-outs and that is not good because teens need to get somewhere in life and be someone in life! If teens get caught with marijuana it will effect them in life, because it goes on their record and it will be hard for them to get jobs and get somewhere in life, maybe not all the time but most of the time. It also might affect ones college chances. Using marijuana can lead to use of other drugs like Cocaine, Meth etc. It can mess up teenager and make them look foolish in the silly actions they do while they are high. It will make them make mistakes and saying yes to having sex, instead of saying no. The stupid mistakes can also embarrass or even hurt them. Then if you use marijuana a lot you can start to loose energy and have a loss of interest in school and in life, and also lose your memory. Marijuana can destroy the way a teenager thinks and get them confused and not know what they are doing.
Marijuana disrupts the brain and can reduce your ability to concentrate. It causes a serious issue in thinking and problem-solving. It also increases your heart rate and panic and more. It can really disrupt the nerve cells and the part of the brain where the memories are formed. Once your brain cells are killed they never come back. Marijuana destroys lung tissue and damages it. It may also damage you physical and have mental consequences. When you get older, you might have a hard time breathing. This drug is a crime. It is defined as a crime. Once you get caught with it you definitely pay the consequences and it’s going to destroy your life.

RHS Homecoming by Marlyn and Sylvia
We went to RHS Homecoming on September 19th. It was really exciting! Many people attended. The nominees drove up to the front of the field in fancy old cars. They announced the names of the royal party and their hobbies and interests. After a long wait they finally announced the king, queen, prince and princess; Alejandra Nunez, Miguel Vega, Savanna Galvan, and Gustavo Vega. People cheered them on. After they were crowned the game started. There was a lot of cheering going on as the game continued. It was a really long game so it made the dance shorter. Football games are really interesting so we decided to interview coaches and football players. We interviewed them in September a week after the game.
We asked Mr. Warden and two students some questions about football. Some things that they do before games are have a meal at the high school, watch a video on the opposing team. Then they watch the JV game. They get to rest. The coaches give an encouragement talk. They talk about being a good team mate, play hard, or as Mr. Warden said, “to hustle.” They remind them to play all four quarters and to not give up. They usually have four practices a week, Monday through Thursday. On Thursdays they slow down a little. We asked Mr. Warden why he likes to coach here in Riverdale. He said that he liked to coach because he is also a teacher and likes to spend more time with his students. He likes to live here because he grew up in a small town like Riverdale.
We asked two team mates; Miguel Vega and Timothy Brown, a few questions. We asked them about how hard it is to stay eligible to play football. One said that it was difficult because there is so much work. The other said that it wasn’t so bad, you just had to have all of your work done. We asked, “Why do you like to play football?” “It is a physical sport and you can hit people without getting in trouble, “Miguel responded. Timothy said that Friday nights were fun because of the crowd. “How would you compare homecoming to the first few games?” Syliva asked. They said that Homecoming has a lot of distractions with the king and queen and all that and the crowds are way bigger. “How are home games different then away games?” “The turf is just different, they don’t like us,” said Timothy. We asked if they feel a lot of pressure to win games. They responded that there was because coaches get mad if we loose. When we asked how they deal with the negative comments of others, they said they don’t let it bother them. They try in the next game to do better and just ignore it.

What’s up in football today?
By Tony and Ricky
The Central Valley Football League is off to a good start in its second season. Six new teams have joined the league this year, including the South Valley Falcons (Hanford), Kern Valley Aztecs, Orosi Stars, Stanislaus Spartans, Merced Mustangs and Pacifica Islanders (Bay Area). The league now has 14 teams, playing in two divisions.
“This year, we had games everywhere,” said Jeff King, owner and founder of the CVFL. “I was a little bit nervous, but everywhere was good. We had some real close games and we had a couple of blowouts.” King estimated that in its opening day, there were 700 people at the Fresno game and 300 people at the game in Orosi.
Last year, its inaugural season, the CVFL included eight teams – the Bakersfield Bulldogs, Central Valley Outlaws (Visalia), Reedley Renegades, the Selma Ravens, Clovis Wolves, Central-Cal Crusaders (Fresno/Clovis), Fresno Pirates and Delano Knights (formerly the Demons). Seven CVFL players earned All-American honors and the CVFL was recognized for three national awards – “Best New League,” “Comeback Team of the Year” for the Clovis Wolves, and King was named “Commissioner of the Year.” The CVFL is a non-profit, minor league football organization. Players range in age from 18 to over 40, many of them former Valley high school and college football players. The league plays most of its games at Sunnyside High School Stadium in Fresno, Orosi High School Stadium and Liberty Elementary School on South Mooney Blvd.

Graffiti is Art
The life of graffiti is not what most people think. Many people think that graffiti is a crime. Though statistics on graffiti waivers were not available, local artists suggest graffiti-to-art is becoming a culturally enlightening trend.
Government is trying to prosecute all the graffiti artists that do murals on walls. Many of the taggers have their own styles in graffiti art. Graffiti has existed since ancient times, with examples from back in Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.
By 1971 tags began to take on their signature calligraphic appearance because, due to the huge number of artist, each graffiti artist needed a way to distinguish themselves. Next to the growing complexity and creativity,
tags also began in size and scale-for example, many artists had begun to increase letter size and line thickness, as well as outlining their tags. This gave birth to the so-called masterpiece or piece in 1972. Super Kool 223 is credited as being the first to do these pieces. During 1980 many graffiti artist had taken to display their work in galleries and owning their own studios.
This practice started in the early 1980s with artists such as Jean-Michael Basquiat, who started out tagging locations with his signature SAMO and Keith Haring, who was also able to take his art into studios spaces. Modern graffiti art often incorporates additional arts and technologies. For example, graffiti research lab. Graffiti has always been seen as vandalism by authorities. So next time you see graffiti think twice before you judge it.
